Korean style toast (isaac's toast) |
Isaacs Toast, the Korean Toast is one of the popular street food in korea.
Ingredients
(Servings: 1)
- Cabbage: a handful
- Mayonnaise: 2 tablespoons
- Kiwi dressing: 2 tablespoons
- Sugar: 1 tablespoon
- Butter: a little
- Bread: 2 slices
- Butter: about 80g
- Slice of ham: 1
- Egg: 1
- Slice of cheddar cheese: 1
Cooking Instructions
Thinly slice a handful of cabbage and soak it in ice water.
When slicing the cabbage, cut it as thin and short as possible to preserve its crunchy texture and flavor. In a bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of kiwi dressing, and 1 tablespoon of sugar well. (2:2:1)
This sweet and sour sauce complements the other ingredients and brings them together. You can use any store-bought kiwi dressing.Beat one egg and set it aside.
In a pan, add a generous amount of butter. Once the butter melts, cook the slice of ham and the beaten egg until golden.
To keep the egg's shape, you can use a square mold. If you don’t have one, use a spatula to fold the egg to fit the size of the bread. In the same pan, add more butter and toast the 2 slices of bread until golden on both sides.
Make sure to butter both sides of the bread to achieve a crispy texture and rich flavor. Keep the heat low to prevent burning and toast slowly until golden. You can use a toaster, but cooking in a frying pan allows the butter to soak into the bread better.Using a cooking brush or spoon, spread the prepared sauce on the front side of each slice of bread.
On one slice of bread, place the cooked egg, ham, slice of cheese, and shredded cabbage.
Make sure the cheese touches the bread so it melts with the heat of the toasted bread.Cover with the other slice of bread to complete the toast.
You can cut it into bite-sized pieces and serve, or wrap it in foil or plastic wrap to keep the filling intact.
Tips to Make Your Toast Even Tastier
Tip 1: If you like sweeter and crunchier toast, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of canned corn to the egg mixture (for 1 egg) and mix well before cooking.
Tip 2: Soaking the cabbage in ice water helps to remove its bitterness and enhance its crunchiness.
Tip 3: If you have leftover pickles at home, adding them will make your toast even tastier. If you don’t like the texture of whole pickles, chop 3 to 4 finely and mix them into the sauce.
Tip 4: Using butter instead of margarine is healthier and enhances the rich flavor, making the toast even more delicious.
